Two proud worlds share this large-format collection. From the American West come Native chiefs in full feather headdresses, young women with painted cheeks and warrior profiles framed by tribal shields, plus star-spangled rodeo posters in weathered reds and blues. From the Far East answer the geishas: ukiyo-e scenes of tea and fans, an ink dragon on aged parchment, a calligraphic dancer, and painterly beauties wrapped in indigo, yellow and flowered kimonos on gilded grounds. Printed in A0, A1 and A2, each portrait is a single statement piece: apply the rice paper to a door panel, a trunk, a tabletop or a canvas and one strong face gives the whole object its character, with that intense, hand-painted presence only rice paper can give.
