Art Nouveau is the realm of Alphonse Mucha and the Paris of 1900. Here are his Seasons, decorative panels — Rêverie, the Zodiac with its jewelled profile, Laurel, the Byzantine heads — and the legendary posters: Sarah Bernhardt as Gismonda and Tosca, La Dame aux Camélias, JOB, Moët & Chandon, the Salon des Cent.
Around the master gather his contemporaries: Steinlen’s black cat from the Chat Noir cabaret, the scandalous Frou-Frou dancer, Grasset’s Paris Almanach and ornate angel friezes. A rich modern series continues the style: flowing red-haired muses wrapped in flowers, Belle Époque ladies in green gowns framed by golden whiplash curves, jewelled portraits crowned with stars.
Sinuous lines and precious framing make every sheet a ready decoration for tall objects, doors, trays and lamps. Apply the rice paper to wood, glass, cardboard or fabric and let 1900 bloom again.
