Rice Paper: Old Object

Old Object is a cabinet of curiosities on rice paper. Engraved repeat patterns collect the beautiful things of the past: fountain pens and nibs, vintage cameras, sewing machines and typewriters, telephones and irons, barrels, feathers, keys and padlocks, ornate cutlery, royal crowns, top hats and gentleman’s fashion, barber-shop tools.

Neoclassical friezes in bronze, silver and gold add Roman helmets and solemn elegance, while Leonardo-style sketch sheets come alive with delightful steampunk creatures — a mechanical chameleon, fish and a bat flying among da Vinci drawings.

The modern portrait series gives each object its own stage: a turquoise telephone, typewriters and sewing machines overflowing with flowers, gramophones, lanterns, compasses, violins on sheet music, suitcases and stacks of old books.
